ACSR Wire Cutting and Sorting Machine for Aluminium-Steel Separation

Time: June 30, 2026

The ACSR wire cutting and sorting machine is a piece of equipment specifically designed for the recycling and processing of aluminium-clad steel stranded wire (ACSR). Through processes such as cutting, conveying, and magnetic separation, it rapidly separates the aluminium cladding from the steel core, enabling the sorting and recycling of the two metals. It is suitable for use in the dismantling of power lines, the replacement of conductors, and by metal recycling enterprises.

Automated Cutting System Designed for the Characteristics of ACSR Cables

Steel-core aluminium stranded wire consists of an outer layer of aluminium strands and an inner steel core. Due to its compact structure, traditional dismantling methods are inefficient and incur high labour costs. The ACSR wire cutting and sorting machine employs a combination of automatic feeding and mechanical cutting, enabling the continuous processing of scrap cables of various specifications.

The equipment is fitted with a Φ200mm wide feed inlet, allowing multiple strands of conductor to be conveyed simultaneously, thereby improving feeding efficiency. During feeding, the feed pressure rollers automatically adjust their height according to the diameter of the material, maintaining stable contact with the conductor and minimising slippage and blockages.

The cutting section utilises fixed blades made from H13 high-strength tool steel, working in conjunction with a dedicated three-speed transmission system, allowing the operating mode to be adjusted according to the conductor specifications. The equipment achieves a maximum processing speed of 50 m/min, with selectable cutting lengths of 10 mm, 20 mm or 50 mm to facilitate subsequent metal separation. For ACSR conductors with diameters of up to 100 mm, the equipment is capable of maintaining continuous and stable operation.

High-Strength Magnetic Separation Enables Precise Recovery of Aluminium and Steel

The cut material enters the high-strength magnetic belt separation system. As the steel core is distinctly magnetic whilst aluminium is non-magnetic, the equipment utilises this magnetic difference to achieve automatic separation.

During the magnetic separation process, the steel cores are attracted by the magnetic force and conveyed to a dedicated discharge outlet, whilst the aluminium particles are discharged via a separate channel, enabling the independent collection of the two metals. According to the equipment’s test data, the separation efficiency can reach 99 per cent, effectively reducing the steel impurity content in the aluminium material and enhancing the recycling value of recycled aluminium.

Compared with manual dismantling, mechanised sorting not only improves processing efficiency but also reduces metal loss. For large volumes of decommissioned transmission conductors, overhead line scrap and ACSR waste generated from power engineering demolition projects, this equipment is capable of large-scale, continuous processing.

Its compact design is well-suited to continuous production in recycling enterprises.

The overall dimensions of the machine are approximately 2000 × 1800 × 2450 mm, with a weight of approximately 2000 kg and a total installed power of 22.25 kW (18.5 kW + 3 kW + 0.75 kW), striking a balance between processing capacity and energy consumption control. Compared to large-scale integrated recycling lines, this unit has a smaller footprint, making it more suitable for use by small and medium-sized metal recycling plants, power waste treatment centres and non-ferrous metal recycling enterprises.

With the ongoing expansion of grid upgrades and the increasing number of transmission line renewals, the demand for the recycling of scrap ACSR conductors is also growing steadily. The use of specialised cutting and sorting equipment not only improves the purity of recovered aluminium and steel but also reduces the costs associated with manual dismantling, providing a stable and efficient processing solution for conductor recycling projects.
